Vit should say to all other Liberland government officials, “No more back-room discussions at all. All discussions about the future of Liberland should now be on the web forum and the forum should not be behind a paywall; everyone should be able to voice an opinion on matters because the future of Liberland is about finding the best possible ideas. An idea that is not publicly posted will not even be considered”
I know Vit must get approached with ideas from all types of people, from billionaires to college students. They all probably want to pitch ideas to him. Vit, and every other LL govt guy should always say to such people, “Put your idea on the forum for all to see, and if the idea can live through the internet tearing it apart, then it might be an idea that is worthwhile.”
Secretive back-room discussions are how the “deep-state” has secretly run shitty governments all over the world. Back-room discussions are how bad people have weaseled their way into power for generations. Back-room parties are how entrapment operations have been run against elected officials for at least a century. Back-room deals are how ideas get pushed through the government that don’t benefit the people at all.
Save the ideal of Liberland. Save that vision that Vit had years ago of a new country that doesn’t suck ass. Force everything into the light of day. Have Liberland be the shining light that is an end to secretive governments across the world.
(Please leave this thread in the General Section, or I won’t be able to comment in my own thread. Moving it is akin to censorship.)
I think a new section called something like post here to petition the Government of Liberland, and whatever member of the government you petition must respond within a set timeframe. Everything on public record above board for everyone to see the petition this should be the way of the future for petitioning government officials and if a meeting is arranged the details of the meeting afterward should be published.
In fact you bring up another important element that has not been addressed yet, the need for what we in the US call sunshine laws. Sunshine laws govern how elected officials hold meetings, conflicts of interest, and so on. They are necessary to prevent secret meetings that have binding consequences with no public input allowed or it is cumbersome to do because of either short notice or held in an irregular place or manner. They dictate what constitutes a quorum and many other ethical rules and these issues need to be addressed!
If you watch any of the “audit” type videos on YouTube, you’ll know that many public officials hate any kind of transparency or accountability. When I worked in EMS, we fell under the county govt and I have personally witnessed a verbal battle in a county commissioners meetings of a commissioner being accused of corruption, without “officially” being accused of corruption. He was told to “man up” and fix the problem and he eventually complied. He had sold a million dollar piece of county equipment to his own company for 1/10th what it was worth. The man simply believed he could do whatever he felt like because he was the authority figure.
Unfortunately, Liberland govt seems to fall in to this trap too, not the actual corruption part, but more like discarding their intellectual ideals in favor of their own long-term interests. I assumed they created this forum so that they could be involved in spirited discussions about how the future of govt should be. This is the only reason I started posting here. But all I have seen here so far is the LL govt treat this as their announcements page. All LL govt officials and most ordinary LLers attempt to stay far far away from any sort of discussion of actual issues. Is it that the fear of upsetting someone risks your free plot of river-front land on the Danube?
I have to assume that those that visit this forum and are part of LL govt have simply put themselves in “Go-Along-To-Get-Along” mode and are unwilling to ruffle any feathers. I’m just not sure a good country can be created by a bunch of people in “Go-Along-To-Get-Along” mode. I think it is much more likely that a good country will be created by a bunch of people passionately arguing and sometimes even yelling at each other, as depicted in the John Adams mini-series. These days, the only arguments worth having are conducted publicly and online. If another project, like Praxis, is willing to be ideologically open, I can see Liberland losing all the passionate people they have taken for granted.
I agree too that Liberland government officiala shouls be more involved in discussions here and try to listen to suggestions. I think blockchain is used and developed improperly, and this is the huge opportunity that is missed so far. Real good blockchain based government could literally attract milions of citizens that would actually buy their citizenship. Sending officials to anniversaries, panels and congresses is a fad, a shallow story, we need to work on blockchain, laws and application of those.
Forum is the place for serious discussions, not instant messaging groups and channels. That is why I devoted a good chunk of my time, voluntarily, to get forum in the right shape and I still think there’s room for improvement.
Also, settling Liberland in this phase is nothing more than lost energy and time for settlers. We don’t yet have sovereignity on that territory, and we won’t gain it just by settling. We need millions of citizens and blockchain is the only way.
Well said Marko I think the biggest issue is getting the framework into place we need to get the laws, blockchain and focusing on international relations with other countries. We need to do more things virtually which is the way of the future instead of spending hard earned money on junket trips, some of them may be necessary but must be scrutinized to make sure we are not wasting dollars, think of a DOGE for Liberland.
I will say this if I was a citizen I would be running for Congress and pushing for the framework like basic laws, a high quality blockchain, establishment of DAO’s with different purposes, putting ourselves on the map by doing various PR campaigns like national symbols, ratifying treaties, exchange of ambassadors with Somaliland and any other countries that are willing to do exchanges and if they don’t want to go that far get some MOU’s in place that will also give us legitimate recognition, just to name a few. I could do some of this without being in Congress too but I first have to become a citizen.
Marko you are the only person that is a citizen and is also fairly active on this forum, I trust you or someone else that is a citizen will take some of my advice and get the ball rolling on the blockchain!
This is why some version of the LTAA I drafted must be passed to prevent state secrets from being perpetually abused. I understand the need to keep certain information confidential for a LIMITED period of time under well established and agreed upon standards but those should be rare and the information still must be disclosed I think at a maximum of 5 years preferably less time than that. Certain issues like diplomatic or legal strategies, active lawsuit litigation should be confidential for the time that those activities are on going but after the case has been closed or the diplomacy that was being discussed has been achieved they must be disclosed ASAP for the sake of a fully transparent government. And no black budgets either those are the most terrifying to me!
