For any new country there has to be some sort of cohesive law and order. What I mean by this is this we need to define certain parameters of what the society for a new country will look like when it is fully established.
Here is my list:
• Basic Criminal Law
• Dispute Resolution and Legal Framework
• National Defense and Public Order
• Establish a Constitution
• Establish a Legislature
• Set Up a Judicial System
• Create a Basic Defense Framework
• Establish Property and Land Registry
• Facilitate Voluntary Economic Systems
• Minimal Funding Mechanism
• Establish a Company Registry and Law of Formation
• Define who is a citizen and the process of Naturalization
This is in my opinion the bare bones minimum that must occur when establishing a new country others can argue there is a lot more to flesh out and while I agree some other things can be done those issues can be set aside for a time while the issues on the list I have are of priority.
For Liberland, a couple of these have already been done like the Citizenship Law and the establishment of Congress, but much more work is needed to be done and while I don’t want to push these laws out quickly, what I want to get going on is discussions on these issues. I cannot find information anywhere as to how the Congress is wanting to move forward. Where is the agenda, where is the notice of the next meeting that is to occur, where is the blueprint manifest as to what the Congress wishes to accomplish in the next year, 2 years, etc?
Wow, good looking list. I am curious; how did these things appear in your end list? Were you looking at a larger list of stuff and deleted things to get to a bare-bones version? Have you slowly accumulated these areas on a list over a long time of thinking of it?
I’m curious because to me, thinking about everything that makes a society work stretches my brain in the same way as when you try to imagine a universe ever expanding, and then zoom in from that picture all the way down to an individual person, a cell, an atom, electron. This seems to be one of the fundamental difficulties in designing a new country from scratch: none of us are experts on everything, we all have big blind spots.
Some questions: what does “Facilitate Voluntary Economic Systems” mean? Taxes? Minimum Funding Mechanism?
That’s why we need people from all different walks of life with different experiences to come together to make a new country! I have found lists that were larger on what was needed to make a country from scratch and narrowed it down to the list above after going through multiple lists.
The minimum funding mechanism is taxation following the model that Liberland uses of voluntary taxation we can get around the whole, “Government taking our stuff because we didn’t pay our taxes” People will pay for the government services they want to pay for and not for those they don’t want to.
