Response to B92 article

Dear B92 editorial team and readers,

Thank you for your interest in the Free Republic of Liberland and for covering our project in your publication. We appreciate the historical overview and the recognition of the enormous global interest in Liberland citizenship — currently standing at over 804,000 applications and more than 1,262 registered citizens.

However, we must respectfully correct one key point in the article. The claim that Liberland’s territory “remains almost unpopulated” and that attempts at permanent settlement have been repeatedly prevented is no longer accurate.

Liberland’s settlement has been up and running since August 2023. A core group of dedicated settlers has maintained a continuous physical presence on the territory of Gornja Siga for over two and a half years. We have already built the first house, established basic infrastructure, prepared marina facilities, and are actively developing the land. New settlers are warmly welcomed every week. Construction is ongoing, and we invite all who share our libertarian vision to join us.

Regarding access for non-EU citizens: Due to repeated interference by Croatian authorities, non-EU visitors who cross into the area from the Croatian side are usually issued a notice requiring them to leave Croatian territory within seven days (accompanied by a temporary re-entry ban). Despite this limitation, these seven days are more than enough to earn full Liberland citizenship. By participating in public works — helping with construction, clearing land, building infrastructure, or other community projects — non-EU settlers can immediately qualify for citizenship and earn Liberland Merits (our community cryptocurrency) during their stay.

Liberland operates as a peaceful, voluntary society with minimal government, voluntary taxes, and maximum individual freedom. We maintain excellent relations with our Serbian neighbours and continue to seek good-neighbourly dialogue with Croatia.

We also have a live economy with a company environment and over 100 registered companies. We also have a Liberland "Uber for everything" app available on Play Store and Google Play.

We invite B92 journalists and readers to:

  • Apply for E-Residency or citizenship at liberland.org
  • Visit our nearby ARK Village in Apatin, Serbia (a short boat ride from Liberland) for events and community gatherings
  • Come and see the settlement with your own eyes

We remain open to further dialogue and future visits. Together we are proving that a freer society is not only possible — it is already being built.
