My Thoughts on Free Trade

True libertarians in my opinion would say that free trade mean exactly that free trade, as in trade between two countries is absolutely of cost to any party involved and unencumbered by means of taxation and or regulations. The government won’t get in the way by imposing tariffs, won’t stop something coming in because of quotas, country of origin etc., it is up the receiving business/company to inspect the goods to ensure that everything is up to their standards. If we want to take this in a different direction the receiving port also has the responsibility of inspecting the goods before the goods are released to the respective company that purchased said goods.

I have never in my life understood why modern governments abuse the phrase “free trade” so much because they are not advocating for free trade they are instead fighting over “trade deals” in the terms that the country “a” trades item “b” to country “c” in exchange for item “d” or some other type of favorable terms from country “c”. This may be much more complex and entwining if one looks at China’s approach to their belt and road initiative for example.

Governments make trading across borders much more complicated and cumbersome than what is absolutely necessary and this is the only way Liberland can move forward in terms of trade. If any treaty that I had mentioned before or in my list conflicts with this policy that I have laid out Liberland cannot in anyway approve it.
