The Government of the Free Republic of Liberland is closely monitoring the situation and has confirmed that no damage to Liberland's territory or infrastructure at ARK Liberland Village in Apatin has been reported at this time. Liberland's community on the Danube remained safe through the event.
"Every structure we build in Liberland is designed with events like this in mind. We work alongside professional engineers and resilience advisors from the ground up, and last night's earthquake is precisely why. Our community is safe, our buildings held, and that is thanks to the experienced planning." — Vít Jedlička, President, Free Republic of Liberland.
Bački Monoštor lies directly across the Danube from Liberland's 7 km² territory — one of the most geopolitically distinctive locations in Europe. The epicentre's position places this among the most notable seismic events to occur in the immediate vicinity of Liberland since the state's founding in 2015. A magnitude 4.2 event is classified as a light-to-moderate earthquake, generally capable of being felt widely indoors and causing minor structural concerns in older buildings.
The Government of Liberland extends its solidarity to all residents and communities across the nine affected countries. Liberland authorities are in contact with partners in the Apatin region and will continue to provide updates should the situation develop.
About Liberland
The Free Republic of Liberland, situated between Croatia and Serbia on the Danube River, was established in 2015 on unclaimed land by Vít Jedlicka. Originating from a border dispute, its 7 km territory is now the third smallest sovereign state after the Vatican and Monaco. Liberland's motto, "To live and let live," reflects its commitment to personal and economic freedom. The Constitution ensures limited governmental interference in its citizens' lives.
