The point about shaming being used instead of force is a broad point that could be used across the govt, but in this article I will use the food inspection example to try to make this point.
We have been trying to work on a system that changes the standard legacy country model of the govt doing forced food inspections on any company involving food and this article may describe a good way.
The govt shall keep a public list of all the food companies (agricultural and restaurant) on its website and the list will be easily searchable (info gathered via business registration). There will be a review section for every business and any citizen can write 1 review (anonymous or not) of any business (This review idea applies to all businesses in LL). Any of the food companies listings on the govt website will include up to date information about the food business that includes: the company that they hire as a 3rd party inspector for their food business with the active dates for which they are under contract with the food business, and an expandable description of how they conduct inspections.
So a listing might look like this:
ABC restaurant (4.2 stars) (click here for reviews)
3rd party food inspection contracted with: XYZ food inspection corp (4.5 stars) (click here for reviews) (click here for details of how they conduct inspections)
3rd party food inspection contracted for period: (1 Jan 2026-1 Jan 2027)
So if the food company has not hired any inspection company, it will look like this:
ABC restaurant (4.2 stars) (click here for reviews)
3rd party food inspection contracted with: NONE, not currently inspected by any outside inspector
3rd party food inspection contracted for period: NONE, not currently inspected by any outside inspector
There is another idea we have had and that is that the govt shall maintain signs and billboards throughout the country that will have messages that elected people in charge of that program believe that the public should be aware of (The Sign, Billboard, and Media Program). One example of a message would be: “Infants are 71% more likely to survive a car accident if they are in a child car seat”.
So let’s say that 4 people are killed by illness directly after eating at ABC restaurant. The Sign, Billboard, and Media Program could enact a series of ads near ABC restaurant that say something like this:
“ABC Restaurant is currently NOT inspected by any 3rd party inspection company as to their food quality
According to medical staff 4 people have died immediately following eating at ABC Restaurant”
Yes, this billboard campaign will probably put ABC Restaurant out of business, but they deserve to be out of business because their sloppy practices killed 4 people. And the govt achieved this without any force enacted other than sharing information. There does not have to be any threatening letters or fines or visits from health inspectors or police. Just information can accomplish the goal.
Obviously the SIgn and Billboard Program would have to be enacted from the start of the country and bits of land should be kept by the govt to house the signs and billboards.
