As the only territorially taxed country that offers tax residency without a minimum stay requirement, Paraguay can free you from personal tax obligations and state insurance payments in your country of citizenship—provided your centre of interest is outside your home country, your country does not impose citizenship tax, and you do not spend the majority of the year in any one jurisdiction.
Benefits
Tax Freedom: Eliminate personal tax obligations and state insurance payments in your country of citizenship (except where citizenship-based taxation applies).
Global Mobility: Maintain your primary residence and activities outside Paraguay while securing a legal residency base.
Essential Services: Once a resident, you can apply for a tax certificate, phone number covering the Americas and Europe, a bank account, private insurance, and even an address.
Full Support: Our dedicated team of Paraguayan lawyers—who have also assisted members of our own team in obtaining residency—will guide you throughout the entire process, tailored to your personal situation.
Requirements and Process:
- Temporary Residency (First Visit): Obtained in a single visit to Paraguay. You will need a background check and birth certificate (documents must be apostilled and in English or Spanish). Your Paraguayan ID card (cedula) will be issued within 30–90 days and can be shipped via DHL if you prefer not to wait in person (shipping via DHL is charged separately). Minimum stay: about 1 week to ensure all paperwork is processed.
- Extension (Second Visit): A second visit is required within one year to extend your temporary residency. Recommended stay 5-7 days.
- Permanent Residency (Third Visit): During a third and final visit, you will be able to upgrade your residency to permanent status, which is not obligatory and is a separate service (our lawyers can help you with that one for an extra fee). You can also maintain the temporary residency as long as you keep on visiting at least once a year.
Costs
Programme Fee: US$3,000 (special offer: US$2,500 for the first 10 applicants).
What’s included: All legal and administrative costs related to obtaining temporary residency.
What’s not included: Travel to Paraguay, your stay there, and optional DHL shipping of your documents.
Payment is due before beginning the process in Paraguay. Ideally, you should start while still in your home country so we can check your documents are in order and ensure your trip is not wasted.
Additional Notes
Residency does not require you to deposit funds in a Paraguayan bank.
Temporary residency already allows you to join the local job market if you wish.
Costs of living in Paraguay are among the lowest in Latin America.
Once you obtain residency, you can become a Paraguayan tax resident without a minimum stay requirement. Tax obligations in your home country depend on your citizenship rules and where your “centre of interest” is located.
Getting Started
- Payment: The process begins with the programme fee ($2,500 or $3,000 depending on the offer).
- Legal Support: We connect you directly with our dedicated English-speaking Paraguayan lawyers, who guide you step-by-step. They will tell you exactly which documents you need, and from which office in your home country.
- Document Check: You send pictures of your prepared documents to the legal team. They confirm everything is in order before you travel to ensure smooth process.
- First Visit: Once cleared, you arrange your first visit to Paraguay (minimum one week). This visit sets you free by initiating your temporary residency and starting the clock on your new status.
