All laws should be sunset laws, with certain things like the countrys constitution and several other types of things not included in this.
With a sunset law defined as a law that expires on a certain date in the future. And the date of expiration can’t be 1000 years, it should be capped at like 10 years. And so after the 10 years, lawmakers (or the people of LL) should have to vote on whether to continue the law for another 10 years.
This keeps laws from just stacking up. And the world changes quickly, laws should change too.
I understand that LL ensures the ability of the people to abolish a law, but there are many questions to this. How is this vote initiated? Can it be initiated at any time or is there a specific period like once a year to abolish a law? Will this process be immune to administrative rigging?
I agree 100% that app laws should sunset heck the swiss “renew” their governments power to tax every 10 years so yes even laws like murder and assault need to be renewed!
Well think of it this way look at the us for example it is a patchwork of different sentences for murder from the kill them all in Texas to more moderate states that still use it like Virginia to Michigan where the death penalty is abolished in there state constitution I think it should be reviewed periodically to make sure the sentences are applied judiciously with the times my former state of Florida has Constitution Revision Commission that meets every 20 years to make sure the constitution doesnt become outdated all laws need to be reviewed to make sure this doesnt happen.
Ah yes I understand. And that’s interesting about Florida and the constitution commission. It gives me an idea for Liberland, it should have a yearly holiday (or week), that is all about the LL people reviewing their constitution and laws and making sure the laws are still relevant and necessary. It shouldn’t just be up to some political appointees to decide such things, the whole populace should be involved if they desire to.
I remember a story, I’m not 100% on the authenticity of it, but a good story nonetheless about the Mayan civilization. Their society was built on segments of volunteers, every week a new % of the population would assemble to do government work: build buildings, maintain roads, etc. Resentment against the govt built up and eventually that weeks volunteers didn’t show up for work and the entire Mayan civilization collapsed starting that week. It shows a society’s continuance depends on the goodwill the populace has towards the collective.
What better way to foster that feeling of collective goodwill than a holiday built on it. And for those that believe holidays should only be about drunken partying, well no one will stop them lol.
I think that would be a great thing for LL sort of like the again Swiss using the Swiss as an example their Landsgemeinden that is still used in their very small cantons.
