When I started this series I was wanting to approach this from a statistical viewpoint comparing and showing how Liberland compares to various countries around the world. It was intended to simple, concise and easy to read. I wanted to sprinkle a few other points showing where Liberland can improve in certain areas mainly those points that are showcased in each article. These points are basic enough in scale that all countries can be compared without any type of distortions in data.
I was not sure how large of a project this was going to be at first but the further I continue this I realize that many countries have little quirks or things that make them unique from the standard that one would expect to see in a data set. The example of Taiwan and their passport rating is an excellent example. Compare this to Haiti which on paper has diplomatic relations with many more countries has a very weak passport when compared to Taiwan.
I have expanded my list of subject countries several times because I want to ensure I give the people of Liberland a well rounded picture of what Liberland can do in spite of not being recognized by any UN member state at the time of publishing. This article series is not intended to be a diplomatic dossier or paper of any sort but to show the people of Liberland there are ways we can make ourselves look presentable to the world at large based upon a few simple metrics that countries and organizations use when comparing different countries on a scale that all are able to be measured by. That is why I produced an article on the need for a statistical body or organization because of the sparse data that is available on Liberland.
As it currently stands I have a list of 80+ countries that I am to compare to Liberland and along the way I will do more of these progress reports every so often as to recap and summarize what countries we have looked at so far comparisons and or lessons that Liberland can learn from. What will become very noticeable is my emphasis and leaning onto those defined as microstates, island nations, those with small land mass and or populations. While I do make comparisons to other countries as any good reporter would do we really need to focus on apples to apples comparisons to get a better picture of what Liberland can do better on as a whole country. I am wondering though if I need to just say the heck with the cumbersome task and just do every country in the world too, time will tell. I just want to do what I can to make Liberland the great country it has the potential of being.
